review 1: The Boston Globe picked this for their online book club this past summer, but I didn't have time to listen to this audio book until now. It's the story of Desdemona Hart, an artist who grew up in Cascade, MA. When she's in her early 20s, her home town is flooded to create a reservoir to supply water to the city of Boston. It's beautifully written, with themes of love gone wrong, promises kept that caused harm, and the importance of being true to one's own art.
review 2: I ultimately enjoyed reading this novel that takes place in what is most likely Enfield MA, now covered by the Quabbin Reservoir, but found that it took me almost halfway through to feel any empathy for Dez, the main character. Almost didn't get there but glad I stuck with it as I really ende
... mored up feeling and believing in all of the characters. It also helps that I have spent some time in the Quabbin area and know some of the area's history. less

The narrator gets a 2/5 stars. Her male voices were...bad. I'll leave it at that.

I am Dez. I sat and cried when I finished it and went through Ed's letter again.
