Surrender to Destiny
review 1: Finally read the last book in "Surrender to Destiny" series "Surrender the Dawn", MaryLu Tyndall has brought this book to a fantastic thrilling end! Cassandra Channing, a determined woman, who tries to find a way to support her family without marriage, though finds it extremely hard for a woman as herself to hire a privateer, to only finds herself she hires the town rogue. Luke Heaton, the town rogue, who spends his time drinking and gambling, because he carries around an enormous guilt from his past which feeds into his insecurities and traps him in a cycle of uneasiness, that is until Cassandra walks into his life.Reading through "Surrender the Dawn" this books showed me between two characters how one did not believe anymore that God existed and with the other that God b... moreasically left like a few other family members left. Luke has grown up through life with nothing going right for him. His parent's died by Indians burning their home down of who they ministered to, though him and his younger brother made it out of the home. Now tending to his brother who has a disease called Rickets, which crippled the boy. Luke doesn't blame God for all that has happen, just can't believe He exists in a world he is living. Cassandra has grew up in a family where her parents were unhappy in their marriage leaving her to run wild as she pleased. She became independent with a hint of temper and rebellion within herself. When her father now long dead and her brothers off fighting in a war, she felt it was her duty to take care of her family. She starts to feel abandoned by her father and brothers, which she puts blame on God, which she feels He has left her as well. Read and see how God works through the two lives and their relationship grows. How Luke just didn't see how God could help him through his life, that you can't do things on your own strength, and with Cassandra that God never abandoned her, that she just needed to allow Him to guide her through life. Plus this book is filled with lots of action, adventure, drama, and a love story that truly made me want to keep reading more to see what happened next!
review 2: I think I'm in love. His name is Luke Heaton, and he is.....amazing. Gorgeous. Courageous. Cares for his family. Strong. Protective. Man of his word. Sweet. And just a tiny bit of a rogue ;) The upside is I have gotten to spend time with him each day for the last 5 days. The downside is he is a fictional character :( However, I got to know him during a fabulous book that I highly recommend for anyone who wants a little pirate adventure, a little romance, and a little shot of patriotism.Cassandra Channing is the only hope for her mother and two younger sisters after her father's passing. Cassandra takes a huge risk with all the money they have left in the world and funds a privateer ship captained by the rogue Luke Heaton. Luke will hunt down British ships, plunder them, sell the plunder at various ports on the way home and split the profits amongst his crew and Miss Channing. The most unexpected prize from all the plundering is the love that grows between Luke and Cassandra. While they each have struggles with God, they each question His love for them and how He could be interested in their daily lives. Throughout the book, different characters share parts of their walk with God and problems they have had and how their relationship with God has grown and changed because of it. There is also an appearance by a fun historic character near the end that might cause a certain song to get stuck in the reader's head-at least it did in mine! A fun, romantic, encouraging read starring the incorrigible Luke Heaton-you should definitely give it a try ;) less

In all honesty, it really deserved a three. But Luke Heaton has a way of changing that.

I am astounded this book is so highly rated, as it took "cheesy" to epic proportions.
