Escape to Paradise
review 1: This is the third book in a series (Escape to Paradise). THis is Abandoned Memories by MaryLu Tyndall. I do recommend that you read the first two books. This could be a stand alone but confusing without knowing what happened previously. The series is about a group of confederates that are leaving the south after the Civil War to try and start over again in South America. The group has people from all walks of life, thieves, con men, a preacher/doctor, plantation owners with their daughter and slave. Each has their own secrets, suffering and dreams of life in this new county.Angeline Moore's chance for a normal life without anyone knowing her secrets. But do they? As her friendship grows with James Callaway who was a preacher, then became a doctor. Now he's in the ... moreposition of being afraid of blood and not sure of his faith. The colonists are having visions, even committing suicide because of these visions. They know they aren't real but they feel and look like they are. James has a book written in Hebrew about the tunnels and the "One" chained up. It tells how they have to make sure they aren't released. The chains have been removed from three of the four nooks in the cave. The people are suffering from several disasters and the people finally come to believe that God has brought them to this place to defeat the evil that has been set loose.I don't recommend this for Young Adults. There are some gruesome places but the love, friendships, faith, overcoming their trials and sharing their love of God helps. They are so many things they have to deal with through nature, evil beings?, and asking for God to guide them.I've read the series and I really enjoyed it. Not one you might want to read late at night. You will want to keep turning pages. The characters will make you smile, cry and some you will really like. Others, not so much.I received this book through Book Club Network and the publisher. All I was asked to do was leave a review with my honest opinion. All opinions are my own.
review 2: This book takes us to the lush, beautiful jungle of New Hope, Brazil. The cast of characters have come here to start new lives. This group of post-Civil War American colonists, each havetheir personal, individual and differing reasons for trying to escape their pasts. But are they doomed to the evil existing below the temple situated there. They are all experiencing haunting visions from their past. Plus there are enduring all typesof natural disasters: floods, fire, ants and more. Why is this happening??? Will they have to give up their dreamto establish a colony??The books has adventure, suspense, deceit, desperation, dreams, romance, humor, poverty issues, struggles, hope and set in a historical background with a huge spiritual element. The main characters are all dealing with real life struggles along withspiritual issues. These six main characters will find themselves all linked together in order to try to defeat evil. Will theysucceed? The author weaves the past and present together effortlessly. The details of the story have you on the edge of your seat until the very end. This book is the third in the Escape to Paradise trilogy. I have only read this final story with no trouble following any of thecharacters or trilogy lines. It can be read as a stand alone story.I received this book from book fun.org. My opinion is my own. less
