review 1: I wasn't expecting much when I started reading the book and found the beginning really captivating. What I liked most was the gloomy, creepy atmosphere in Engelsfors and the dire supernatural events happening at the school. All main characters have "psychological depth", which makes them interesting and likable, but sometimes the reader gets a bit too much of their thoughts and feelings. In my opinion, some chapters are unnecessary and lead to plot dragging. I'm looking forward to the movie coming in 2015, hoping for an exciting mystery-fantasy thriller.
review 2: This book had been sitting on my bookshelf for quite a while before I felt able to commit to reading such a long story. However, when I finally started reading, it captured my interest so much that I ... morejust got lost in the story and I didn't even notice how much I was reading. This is a great, well-written YA novel that I would recommend to anyone who likes reading about teenagers with supernatural powers. The characters are well developed and there are some really interesting twists and turns. I definitely want to read the sequel! less
