review 1: Saw the movie first. Literally cannot get past the first 70 pages. I've tried. It's just written too simplistically. It is too irritating to read. It's easier to watch someone that is troubled than it is to follow their bizarre internal voice. Reminded me of the narrative style of The Sound and the Fury, which I did not care for either. The story is good and the characters could be interesting, but the first person narrative is just difficult to read.
review 2: “The Silver Linings Playbook” By Matthew Quick is a powerful and deep novel that shows true meaning about how life really is. I gave this novel a five out of five mainly for it’s detailed and lively characters. The elaborate characters make you feel like you really care about their choices and
... more gives you sense of connection to the main characters Pat Peoples and Tiffany. This novel showed me many things about life but the one thing that stuck out most was that happy endings can happen. People should stay positive and if they do, they have a shot at a silver lining. One thing that I realized when reading this novel was that when motivated with the support of a friend you can accomplish anything. During the book Pat hits a Point where all he cared about and all he was determined to do was getting back his divorced wife, which was clearly delaying his mental health. Although Tiffany disagreed with Pats idea of getting back with his cheating careless wife, she still wanted to find a way to help Pat get better. One of her ideas was to enter them into a dance competition, which really did help. Tiffany knew Pat was curing her depression and she also knew the only way for Pat to get better and move on from his tragic past was closure. I think this novel was so meaningful because, it showed that even if life is bad and your feeling down, you need to except life how it is and be thankful for the loving people and good things you have around you. The author Matthew Quick influenced my feelings throughout the entire story. He made me feel angry when Pat was angry or even sad when Tiffany was sad. The story also made me sympathize over the two’s mental health. I would highly recommend “the Silver Linings Playbook” to readers because Matthew Quick successfully made a novel that you will never want to put down. less
