review 1: After thinking about this book for a day, I had to go back and change my rating and review. Not that the rating went up much, but parts of the story really stuck out for me. And not the weird parts, because I totally get that (hart-harr- if you read the book). There is a good message that I appreciate in this book and if you've not ever been ridiculed in your life, you may not get it. But for the rest of us, pretty awesome.
review 2: I loved it! One of my favourite books, purely for how sweetly unique yet relatable the plot is! One of Quick's evident strengths is portraying eccentric and problematic main characters from a first-person perspective and making you utterly empathise with them. There was no shortage of humour too, from the handful of crackpot side
... morecharacters that complemented his mental instabilities, his foul-mouthed best friend Max, or the sheer implausibility of some of the places their goals lead them to. Nevertheless it was beautifully and compassionately written with a dotty but positive message and incredibly warm, loveable characters. The interactions between characters were especially great to read, despite the batty premise of the whole plot it flowed very well and I was pretty sad to finish it. less
