review 1: The first couple of these stories were both science fiction and literary and I enjoyed them. However, I can't say that for the majority of the collection, which seemed to decrease in sf content and increase in literary opacity with each story. I did find interesting the titular story, in which a mother and daughter must fend for themselves after the unnamed apocalypse, particularly as a contrast with "Lot" by Ward Moore, in which a father makes a similar choice at the beginning of an apocalypse but for similar, yet slightly different reasons.
