review 1: I feel like this series may have some promise. The characters are ok and are pretty typical of similar YA novels. Of course there is also a bit of a love triangle, which is seems to be a requirement now for novels of this genre. What makes Deviants different from other YA dystopian novels is its world. Deviants has a much stronger sci-fi flair to it, and I am really hoping that the rest of series spends more time on world building. The scary uber-capitalist Haven, the mysterious properties of the "dust", and the various mutations of the deviants/gifted were the aspects of the book that I enjoyed the most, and made it stand apart from the ever-ballooning YA dystopian genre.
review 2: Bought it on a whim only because amazon were practically giving it away. When
... more I started reading it I didn't exactly have high hopes. It was the complete opposite of what I expected and it completely blew me away. It was fantastically written. The suspense had me sweating bullets and the action made me want to jump in the book and kick butt. It's got everything you could possible want: superhuman abilities, a seriously corrupted government, humanoid monsters and romance! less
