review 1: Chronologically this is the first Quarry book, but was one of the last written. I was not sure how to approach this as I am often torn between reading books in chronological order and order published. In the end I decided to follow the advice of a few postings and read this one first. Not a bad noir story. It starts out simple enough, but gets more convoluted along the way. Somewhat reminds me of a Westlake 'Dortmunder' novel in that respect. A bit of a difference to most noir, in that the main protagonist is not a PI or cop, he's a hit man. Kind of a refreshing change from the norm. Like most novel of the genre is was a quick read at just over 200 pages.I will be looking to read more in the series.
review 2: Quarry is a Vietnam veteran with a new perspective on
... more life and death. When he's hired to kill a man, a college professor with an eye for beautiful co-eds, he sinks into the role quickly, hiding out in an empty house next door, watching woman after woman making visits to his new neighbor. Quarry isn't a pro yet, and he soon becomes entangled with some of the women himself, but luck is on his side and everything works out okay in the end, even if the road is a mess getting there.Quick and entertaining, this book will satisfy fans of the crime genre. less
