review 1: Definitely one of the better books of the Hard Case Crime Series. The author makes good use of the flippant, sarcastic and lean language which is so typical for this kind of crime novel. Although giving his character some background, he starts right in the middle of the story which makes the book a fast, entertaining read. Quarry is smart, witty - and a contract killer. Accordingly, there is a lot of violence and killing in this book - for my taste, it's a little bit too much. It may fit into the story, but it prevented me to feel deep sympathy with the protagonist. In the end, Quarry is a nice guy - a nice guy with a lot of blood on his hands. But as I am not too faint-hearted, I am looking forward to the other books describing Quarry's struggles.
review 2: An
... moreother good book in the "Hard Case Crime" book series. The story begins when a hitman called Quarry( your never sure if thats his real name) is given the task of killing a college professor who's making trouble for a Chicago mob boss, because he's writing a book about the mob boss and bedding the boss' daughter but everything is not as it seems and soon complications arise along with a surprise or two. This is a prequel to Max A Collins " Quarry" series and its not necessary to read the other books to enjoy this one. In the end, if your in the mood for a pulpy, sexy, and violent crime novel this is one worth picking up. less

Nothing like a nice, easy-to-read crime story to clear the head.
