review 1: The first book in a YA dystopia series by German author Maya Shepherd, this was an entertaining, quick read. Decades after the nuclear devastation of Earth in World War III, the last survivors of the human race live in safety zones, their lives strictly controlled to the last detail. Everyone looks alike and dresses alike, they have designations instead of names, occupations are assigned by the system and differences are not tolerated for fear that they might lead to conflict. The system exists to keep them safe - or so they are told. D518 grew up in a safety zone and has never known another life. When she and a group of others are kidnapped by rebels she never even knew existed, however, she learns that all she's ever been taught are lies. The rebels show her a different ... moreway to live - one where people have names, fall in love and make their own choices. And she has a role to play in their plans to fight against the system... An intriguing story, likable characters and a huge cliffhanger at the end - definitely a series to continue reading!
review 2: Nothing special, it was a freebie from Amazon. A sort of mixture of happenings after the last world war and the events after the radioactivity is no longer there. Two groups of people, those living a sheltered protected dictated life underground, completely organised and the other group living outside knowing that the radioactivity is not longer a danger. I read the book and I think there might have been a film, but it is nothing special. less
