review 1: This book didn't quite get there for me. It was a little all over the place. The story starts with Shimari, a demon, being summoned by mistake and illegally by a young man who should not be using magic. Still, Shimari seems like a pretty decent sort of demon and decides to help his new master, Andrus, out. This part of the story was pretty interesting. I thought it was going to be a nice story between an unexpected blossoming romance between Shimari and Andrus. But then Megan adds a random third person to the story and it kind of lost it for me. I actually liked Shimari and I liked Andrus and I even liked Oresti, but Oresti was added towards the end of the story and the development wasn't there. It seemed this story ended very abruptly with no real closure except a... more few sentences of what they were going to do next to "fix" everything. Too short by far. This could have been a great, fully developed book.Megan Derr's works are very interesting. Her story lines are usually fascinating and her short stories are either remarkably developed for their length, or they are cut off before getting to a satisfying conclusion. All the stories are good, but this one falls into what I call her "not quite there" category. Like enjoying a good lusty bout of sex and reaching for an orgasm and it's right there...oh yeah, right there...wait for me....not yet....wait for me...oh crap. You're done? Shit. Get off me then.
review 2: Wonderful story! I'd gladly read more about these characters and their universe. I'd rec this to anyone who likes male/male romance, historical fantasy, and a dash of intrigue. The premise--an accidental demon summoning--is most fun, I love the characters involved, ended up snickering lots at the adorable, and was also very, very happy about the romance--was surprised, in fact, by how hard I rooted for the characters involved. Which says something, considering how sensitive I am about that subset of romance. Threesomes are generally not my cuppa tea, as so often the lovers involved don't properly balance each other, and end up lopsided in important ways. I didn't see that in the future of these characters, and was thoroughly satisfied by the ending. Also surprising to me was that despite the Whodunit being pretty clear from the beginning, I wasn't upset; the characters were so stellar, and the sexual tension smoldering, that I can't fault the mystery since it wasn't the central story being told.If you've got a little while and a dollar to spare, definitely read this. You'll be happy you did. less

So cute! I'd love to know what happens when daddy finds out and how they proceed into the future.

3.5 starsIt's too bad this wasn't 5x as long because it would have made an incredible novel.
