review 1: Author Meghan Ciana Doidge's first book in the Dowser series was a delight to read as I fell in love with the assorted paranormal characters. Werewolves, witches, and vampires, oh my! But the book was so much more than a paranormal urban fantasy. It was about family and complicated sibling relationships and attempting to love and forgive those closest to you. Book two, Trinkets, Treasures, and other Bloody Magic, was even BETTER, if that's possible! Protagonist Jade is dealing with the loss of a loved one, new powers, and the belief that she is more than what she's been told by her controlling grandmother. Mixed in with her growing insecurities and frustrations with the secrets kept by the women of her family, is a sexual tension between Jade and one of her hot male co-hor... morets. Funny, sad, poignant, and always entertaining, this series is my favorite paranormal series EVER!
review 2: I'm torn about this contemporary fantasy series. It's a mash up of urban fantasy and cozy mystery. The title is too cute for the series, and the cute parts seem at odds with the violence in the stories. Worse of all, this book leaves the story hanging - no resolution to the conflict in the book. Instead, the story takes a detour into a magical realm where the heroine meets her long-lost-dad, leaving others in the human realm in the middle of the climatic fight. less
