Sarah and I are a team and, after a little over two years together, we are taking on the biggest step either of us have ever taken with another person- buying a house! After months of getting let down left and right, making offers and getting overbid, non-responses from seller’s agents, thinking we had to settle for anything that was “fine,” and almost giving up all together, we found THE house. Not just any house, but a giant, kinda dated, super charming rancher …. yes, with no less than two carpeted bathrooms. As soon as we walked in, we could not get over how awesome everything was. It felt like home immediately, until of course, we noticed there were security cameras everywhere.
We considered that it was possible the sellers would know just how much we loved the house, said “fuck it,” and went home and got the offer in that night. Aside from the nerves since the extent of my experience is basically painting walls… and that one time I put helped together a BRIMNES daybed, I am flipping PUMPED. I have a list of “things we need to do first” that is probably about two pages long. Decarpet bathrooms, create a wine storage room, have an awesome master suite, bring the bathrooms to this century… love my girlfriend, pet some dogs, and take lots of naps.
The scary/exciting thing is we’ll be making lots of decisions together and we are both pretty opinionated (I always tell Sarah that she only likes things she hates). Hopefully this journey of house fashion is fun and entertaining and we don’t end up on an episode of snapped over something silly like a backsplash or keeping the bidet…
Along the way we would love some friendly input or at least to share this experience with anyone that is looking for ideas or a laugh. Fellow novice handy-people, unite!
