review 1: I'm drawn to this book due to its unconventional nature and unique format that demands it's reader to be thrust into the realm it creates. The reader is begged to embark on a journey unlike their own to gain an insight and appreciation for those whom they embody's perspective otherwise untapped by something as intrinsic as sight. The Braille paired with grayscale depictions of the world offers lens to another side of the world they don't normally see, through which I hope to convey a sense of respect and appreciation for those whose vision of life it mirrors. Walking a mile in another's shoes can be so valuable and immediately cast your own experience in a new light. I would have students write on their sentiments about reading a book as someone without sight, and might e... moreven pair it with a social experiment where they would be someone who is visually impaired for a day. afterwards we would discuss what they discovered and have them reflect on it.
review 2: This is so creative in such a simple way. Picture books are so important for children as they become active readers and this book is such a clever twist on that genre. The "pictures" do indeed tell the story but your eyes never see the message. This gives the reader the added benefit of "seeing" as someone who is blind sees. An added feature is the incorporation of Braille text.I am so happy I have added this gem to my library. less
