review 1: Cottin, M., & Faria, R. (2006). The Black book of colors. CA: Groundwood Books. ChoiceNew York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Book of the Year/ *Kristen McKulski-Booklist Source: CLCD The words of this book allow the reader to taste, smell, hear, and feel all the colors of the rainbow. The braille illustrations are amazing for any reader to feel to develop an appreciation for those who are different. My heart was touch by this simple book that shows how beautiful everyone's unique differences are, but how we often take for granted some of our most precious gifts such as sight. This book would be wonderful for helping student writers learn to use descriptive and sensory language in their writing so that their reader may "see" their writing.

... morencept book features left-hand pages that are black with white text and braille on top of the page while right-hand pages have raised art so the reader can "feel" the concept being featured on each two-page spread. The words for YELLOW say it "tastes like mustard, but is as soft as baby chicks" and the "feel" page has raised feathers for the reader to touch. A great, unique concept book that can be used with blind kids and to educate seeing kids about blindness. less
