review 1: I liked it. There was a lovely slow progression toward trust and love. The problem is that most of the time, it was too slow. Parts of the book felt interminable. I seriously wondered if the book would ever get to its conclusion and found myself looking at the percentage I was into the book and groaning "Oh gosh, only 62% done! I'm never going to get to the end of this." Same at 76% and again at 85%.
review 2: 2.5 stars -- unlikable stealth-feminist heroine masquerading as foolmany of duran's greatest strengths are evidenced in this novel -- a slow burn between the protagonists, a feminist heroine defending her own, a hero's maturing psychology of women and particularly his love interest. but i so disliked the heroine that i couldn't psychologically inves... moret in this novel.mina masters is superficially a flighty, silly, fluffy girl with a knock-out figure and, i imagine, a betty boop voice. in actuality, she's quite intelligent and scheming, and so, fatigued by the slights and oppression and underestimations of powerful men all around her, she fully embraces her phony exterior to furtively win power and security. while she may have been So Much More at her core, the fact of the matter is that for hundreds of pages we're dealing with the Stupid version, and this fatigued me mightily, ma'am.didn't love. less
