review 1: I liked this second book by Haskell even better. I would give it a 3.5 rating. It's pleasant to watch a good writer grow. I especially enjoyed the medieval Germanic setting and again, the main character girl. The supporting characters were also very good and they developed and changed over the course of the book, just as the the protagonist did. I liked the angle Haskell took on dragons, Fafnir and his descendants. And I appreciated the things the protagonist learns about herself and her responsibilities. Perhaps a faint echo of Eustace in C.S. Lewis' The Voyage of the Dawn Treader here?
review 2: Tilda is great! This is an engrossing story about a princess who wants to slay dragons--so she does, and she learns a few things about herself and the world al
... moreong the way. Tilda is a tough girl, with a splayfoot and her own maid, who happens into some interesting situations involving dragons. Her growth is organic and the story is engaging and really about dragons and adventure more than anything. less

I'm not sure how a story with a princess, dragons, and adventure could be so bad but this story WAS!
