review 1: As soon as I read the prologue, I was hooked. Lolly Weller is taking care of three grieving teenagers. Her daughter, Kat and her two nieces, Isabel and June McNeal came to live together in a small area called Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Lolly's sister, husband and brother in law was in a deadly accident that left her nieces to live with her at an inn that has been in the family since the 1800s. The 3 Captains' Inn is not modern like some of the other hotels in the area, but it is cozy and comfortable. Fifteen years after the accident, the story continues where each of the women have a dilemma to solve. Isabel has been married to Edward for 10 years. She finds out that he hasn't been faithful and has to figure out what she wants to do about it. June was going to C... moreolumbia University and dropped out her senior year because she became pregnant. Charlie is the young son which she is raising on her own and is trying to locate his father. Kat has to decide whether she wants to marry her best friend, Oliver Tate. They have been inseparable since they were toddlers. They have been neighbors for over 15 years. Lastly, Lolly has her own battles to confront. She calls the girls to the inn to reveal a surprise announcement. Its unusual for the family to get together when it is not Thanksgiving or Christmas. The two sisters stay away from each other as much as possible because of the constant fighting and Kat is the quiet observer.
review 2: The book is exceedingly predictable, but no less sweet for being so. I understand that having the characters watch the movies and comment on them was the way to tie them all together, but there was something about it that irked me, slimly. Like I was sitting in on someone else's book club. I almost felt like if I had been able to watch the movies at the time the characters did, I'd have been able to understand them better. Especially regarding the movies that I hadn't seen or hadn't seen in a very long time. less

A good beach read. Lots of ladies with different problems that come together, and help each other.
