review 1: Given that I am a big fan of Streep and most of the movies referenced, it was a fun twist into this plot. You may have to be a Meryl Streep fan to understand the movies threaded throughout the movie nights at this family's little inn. Though, I think it could have been fictious movies/actress really because the thread is explained well in the writing. The three gals of this book are classic characters - a woman just discovering she is allowed to dream outside of that which has just fallen into place, a single mom wondering what if and allowing negative stereotypes of young unwedness get in the way of seeing all her blessings, and a woman whose marriage falls apart and in brokenness finds renewal by coming 'home'. Add in the quality of a hard to read Aunt/Mom and you've got... more a solid characters and a beautiful family just dealing with 'life". At first I was disappointed to learn there was a strong cancer theme because I've read several novels lately with someone battling cancer, but in this story I found it was dealt with beautifully and used as a catalyst for the women to all discover new things about one another. A classic, solid summer chick lit read!
review 2: I don't think it'd be a stretch to say that The Meryl Streep Movie Club is the best book I've read this summer. It combines all my favorite elements of a good story: family, friendship and romance. I enjoyed getting to know Lolly, Isabel, June, and Kat. There wasn't a dull moment in this book as something was always happening to make you want to read more. I liked the fact each chapter was told from a different character's perspective allowing you to understand where each one was coming from. The reader gets to watch the women grow individually and grow together into a closer knit family. The movie nights provided a good discussion point for the women and allowed them to re-examine their personal situations by considering what they would do in Meryl's characters' situations. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys chick lit and wants to get lost in a good story. You won't want to put it down! less

Fun, easy read; makes me want to watch all her movies again. Somewhat predictable, but then, not!

An interesting read, but the constant movie spoilers were very frustrating.
