review 1: Again, I'm not a big fan of stories about changing history or time travelling, but for the most part, this was a cute book. The girls, Puck, Pinocchio, The Mirror, and baby Basil go into the Book of Everafters. Mirror wants to use Basil's body, since it is young, to escape his life of glass, and the girls and Puck try to stop him, causing havoc all over the Book. Finally, Henry, Veronica, and Relda appear and they are able to go into the story of Snow White, though they are not able to make it in time to stop Mirror taking over a body. He takes over Basil for a while, though through a spell he ends up inhabiting Granny Relda and Basil is safe. We discover that the story of Snow White had to be rewritten and Prince Charming has an evil brother, Atticus, though what he ... moredoes or did we do not yet know. Basil is named at the end of the book, and Puck and Sabrina talk about their future, and the possibility that they may not end up getting married (though I for one would be very sad). The Grimms come back to find their home destroyed, as well as much of Ferryport Landing, and Relda/The Mirror missing, but Henry saves the entire collection of family journals and finds familiar friends to aid them against the impending doom. The book closes with Puck telling Sabrina that she is this story's hero, something she did not realize until that moment.
review 2: The series had begun to pall for me, so Buckley brought in several new and interesting developments. I'd say he can keep this going indefinitely which I wouldn't mind, since the characters are maturing and learning and changing. I'm as bad as Daphne, getting all excited when he introduces one of the great fictional characters of all time. However, I do not bite my hand, a habit I haven't been able to picture, thankfully. Best line of the book: "Evil scrapbooking." That inspired a fair number of mwahahahas. less
