review 1: This book will be slow for many readers, but for the true crime fan or the reader who enjoys a real life feel to their detective books, this one was written especially for you.These readers typically dislike it when the police processes are short-shifted. They dislike it when a movie or a book takes short cuts to meet a tight plot line. This short story doesn't. It spins out a realistic plot over a long time to come to a satisfactory cold case ending.In other words, this is an opportunity to take a deeper look at the life of a real detective working cold cases and how they continue to plow through the facts and shift them for ages in order to bring resolution to the victim's survivors.I found this read fascinating, and I'm one who typically opts for the tight plot that bar... morerels down to the explosive ending. You might like it as well.
review 2: Short Story 18.5 in the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly - 3 stars. An anonymous tip has been received providing the name of a suspect in the 1992 stabbing murder of a 19 year old victim, and Harry is assigned to follow up on that lead. Blood traces belonging to the suspect are found on the murder weapon and now all Harry has to do is locate the anonymous tipster.This is a moderately good police procedural suitable for filling the spare time in a lunch break, but I don't believe it would encourage anyone who is not already a Harry Bosch fan to read the series. It provides some nice insight into how a police investigation works in real life, but there is no real drama to really pull the reader in. Good enough, but not great. less
