review 1: Royce and Hadrian are new partners heading toward a new job when they come across a woman that needs their help with a strange man in her barn. Though Royce does not want to help, he allows Hadrian to help in order to teach him a life lesson. This is a short story (actually it later became chapter 2 of another book), but stands on its own. It is well written and does a great job introducing the main characters (if you aren't already familiar with them). It then moves quickly into the story, which ends with a brilliant twist. Though short, it is a great little story and makes me want to read the primary story soon. Definitely worth a read as it will likely take you less than 30 minutes.
review 2: Nice little short read! I really liked it! Especially the short sto
... morery in the beginning "the Viscount and the Witch". Honestly, I was just as shocked as Riyria were with the poor dirty beggar like man as a viscount. Shows that nobles can take a hit and lose everything (it's almost like the literature books we read in English class.) I like how Royce reacted to his little mistake in the end. He is wrong and Hadrian knows it, the Viscount knows it. It was funny and cute how Royce couldn't even finish his defending sentences, finally something that made Royce more like a human and less like a robot XD. Then there was Hadrian. Poor naive and silly, yet big hearted and helpful Hadrian. I thought the witchy woman was suspicious, Royce knew she was bad news and yet Hadrian is still blind to the evils of the world. Oh well huh? I do suppose that's a good trait to have, outside of fighting that is. Royce is always on guard.I was going to read "Theft of Swords" next after the Crown Tower (the first book I read from the series)and was greeted with a little extra in the book. It was probably on the amazon description when I brought it that the book included the chapter ones of "The Crown Tower" and "Theft of Swords" but I'm a skimmer when it comes to shopping. I skipped the last chapter (the chapter one peek preview on "The Crown Tower" since I just finished the book. I did read the first chapter of "Theft of Swords" and saw how ALMOST buddy buddy Hadrian and Royce were and was immediately excited to buy the book. I overall really liked the book and short story. I loved the short story in the beginning and I was delighted with the previews. 5 stars for a cute ending (I thought it was cute and funny) for the short story. 5 stars for the previews too. Thanks for a good short read! less
