review 2: **I hid this because it really contains major plot spoilers. I doubt you will be able to enjoy the book much after knowing all the things I talk about here, so please really only read this if you have already read the book or don't plan on reading it anyways.**My main thought while reading this book was "Wow, this is so much like Seven Souls [Barnabas Miller, Jordan Orlando]." Sure, without all the supernatual kind-of-voodo-stuff and the reliving the day in question from another point of view, but besides that, it had it all - the shallow and super popular teenage girl whos friends wanted to murder her, the junkie-boyfriend who thought way too much of himself, the lesbian best friend who was rejected by the teenage girl, the expensive clothes or shoes borrowed from the richer friend, the mother-issues, I think Seven Souls even had the dead dad thing. I don't want to say that one of them was copied, but it really was a bit weird. Both books were released in 2010, Rosebush a few months later, though. Now, the book itself. It started out super boring, actually, and I was so tempted to just not read on. I did, though, and it does get better with time. Towards the end I was really interested in the story and couldn't stop reading. Now, there still are several problems: First off, I didn't really like any of the characters. At all. Jane was so absolutely stupid, I kept trying to tell myself to just accept that horrible character of hers, since she's only 16 and everything, but then I realized that doing that would actually be an insult to my 16-year-old self and any other person who is, has ever been or will ever be 16 years old. She is just so shallow and stupid and annoying, it's like she walked right out of some clichè low-budget high school film. Her boyfriend was so much of an obsessive, abusive asshole, I wanted to slap both him and her so hard for allowing him to be like this. Her friends were a bit more bearable, but not very much. Her mother was horrible. Her sister was sort of cute and funny, but in a rather forced way.I also didn't like how Langley just went from being the nice friend to basically being a completely out of her mind serial killer. Sure, it's nice to not have the obvious first suspect (aka Ollie) be the actualy murderer, and sure, psychopaths can adopt pretty well to being "normal", but it's just so lazy of authors to not even try and encorporate that a bit with their character, but just give them a very sudden 180-degree-turn and have them totally freak out. It's almost as if Michele Jaffe had written the book up to the final scene and then threw a dice to see which character would be the murderer. Of course, in retrospective a few things are explained that make it obvious that Langley was guilty, but it just came really sudden and wasn't very realistic, I think. The whole ending scene was rather badly done, anyways, I think, with Pete just randomly figuring everything out and then rushing to Jane's rescue by knocking out Langley with a DVD. (What the hell?)There were some other things that didn't make much sense to me, too. Like, wasn't Jane snogging Kate at that party? How come she hasn't been poisoned? What was this about poisoning lip-gloss anyways, it was so weird, really? Also, there is some t-slur in the beginning, which is so not cool. less

The book Rosebush is about a young girl whose 16 and she has a boyfriend. On the weekend of Memorial Day she went to a friends house who they were having a party. It was late night and she was with some friends talking and Jane went with her boyfriend. Jane went to see her friends then all of a sudden she gets in an accident and she wakes up in the hospital. Jane doesnt remember anything from thr party what was she doing or ehat did she drink. Doctors said that someone in the party drugged with her with something. Jane remembers that she was holding a cup on her hand but she never drinked it. She remembers that her boyfriend David was not happy with the things that was happening that jane was leaving David on a side and Jane will always go with her friends. They had a fight during the party. Janes viewpoint is very different she has difficult time remembering what happened in the party. How she got ran over. Why did David and Jane fought during the party. Doctors said that someone tried to kill her know Jane is scared that someone will come and kill her ehile shes in the hospital. It's convincing because it gets you interested and you can imagine the scene how it happened. It gets you confused and you have to reread again the page so you can understand it better. Its a good book it explain every detail how it hapepned how she tries to remember the scene and what happened. I can relate this bookmto an article i read about

Because I absolutely LOVED and ADORED Jaffe’s novel, Ghost Flower, I looked into this one. Mistake. Big mistake. I only read the prologue and first chapter of Rosebush, but they were both of abysmal quality, so I don’t feel bad at all. It all just read like a really, really bad first draft. Nothing I read before deciding to call it quits spoke of any talent whatsoever. Massively disappointing when I have definite experience that this author can write a seriously good book. I just…wow, this is bad. Bad bad bad. I stopped reading at 6%.
