review 1: There aren't many books being written about characters doing nice things for others, so this book is a pleasant change. Nina and her best friend are an interesting contrast in characters. The friend is very self-centered, and Nina is trying to find ways to make others happy. The boy across the street is going through a rough time and questions Nina's efforts. His little brother and the lady next door add smiles to the plot.
review 2: This was an adorable, quick read to kick off anyone's summer list. The back cover says, "One summer. One Girl. One Plan" How fitting! Nina Ross is feeling at loose ends as summer begins, the first without her Grandma, who lived with the family on their cul-de-sac before she died. When she clandestinely plants her neighbor Mrs. Chun... moreg's marigolds, Nina's summer plan is hatched, almost without her knowing it. Sixty five days of summer mean 65 good deeds for the wonderful characters that inhabit Nina's cul-de-sac. From nosey Mrs. Millman to cute little Thomas and his superhero cape, Hurwitz has created a very realistic set-up, with the characters hitting all the right notes. less
