review 1: I read this book with by book group. There were many details about the French Revolution that we did not know or did not remember. That proved to be a great starting point for a good discussion. Madame Tussaud was amazing in that she was able to walk between the two worlds of the day: she befriended Royals and Revolutionaries. It was a dangerous road to walk, and she survived. And it gave her interesting insights to the war. As a book group, we were not overly fond of Michelle Moran's writing style. But her research was what gave us so much fuel for discussion. I would recommend this book for the historical research. I love historical fiction. It was interesting to meet Madame Tussaud. But as we also discussed, "Moran is no Pearl Buck."

... moreelings about this book. Although I enjoyed learning about the life of Madame Tussaud, the detail of the many horrors of the French Revolution and what Marie and her family and friends had to endure were difficult for me to read. I did enjoy the way Michelle Moran wrote about the individual personalities of the Royal Family at that time, their strengths and weaknesses and the relationship that Marie shared with them all. Honestly, I would recommend other books by Michelle Moran before this one. less
