review 1: This story covers the last six years of Napoleon's reign. It's told in three voices - his second empress Marie Louise, his crazy sister Pauline, and Pauline's devoted chamberlain (who sees all). Marie Louise is portrayed as a talented, intelligent woman with a strong sense of integrity. Come to think of it, so is the chamberlain. The psychology of this book was interesting to me. The Bonaparte's as a family were incredibly ambitious, narcissistic, and rather crude.
