review 1: I went into this book expecting drama and I was not disappointed. Here we have a wife, Helen, trying to leave her husband after a year of being apart. She loved Xander, but his actions before their wedding smothered her feelings. She gets into an accident trying to leave him and he shows up to take care of her. Well, in his own way. He takes her to his private island to seduce her, ready to finally kick-start their marriage. I had a hard time liking him, because I wanted to clobber him in the head. He acted like he didn't do anything wrong! But one thing is evident to both of them. After their first time together, their determined to win each other over and fight for their marriage. Then they leave the island because he had business to attend to. Here is where the drama re... moreally starts. I couldn't wait to finish the book because I was on the edge of my seat, needing to know how Helen and Xander's issues were going to be resolved. Now, this is a Harlequin so I really though I knew what was going to happen. I mean, I never even second guessed what should have happened. But, this isn't by any author. No, this is a Michelle Reid book! Of course things were twisted. What happened really threw me for a loop. I mean, come on! Everything matched up perfectly and then boom! The reader gets cuffed in the ear and made to see the truth. It finally made me appreciate Xander, since we finally see the reason he hates his mother. I wanted to pat him on the back, because he stood up for something that everyone else turned their backs on. This book would have gotten five stars from me, but the ending wasn't long enough to satisfy me. I guess nothing is perfect though, right? Definitely one of the better Harlequins I've read.
review 2: This one was nice. There was plenty of POV from the hero so you knew all along that he loved her and felt guilty about marrying her so young and forcing her to do this or that. Lots of angst on his part. In fact you really knew the hero much better than the heroine. The biggest problem I had with it was the hero kept threatening to kill the heroine if she ever slept with another man or even let one see her naked or what have you. That's just not right. Sure threaten to kill the other man, I'm behind you all the way (well in Romancelandia anyway) but he should always be aware that he would never seriously hurt the heroine. less
