review 1: The second volume has more of what I didn't appreciate in the first volume: following the rather slowly paced story of how the main character Tom/Tommy and his friends (the "inside man" joins as the second companion) battle the arch-enemy and seek to understand his origin. Initially I liked the idea that they would be using the map with post-its as a treasure map and their story would be one of unlocking a lot of smaller treasures. What I appreciate is that each "treasure" says something about literature/storytelling. In this volume, we learn how stories are usurped and live "inside man" and woman with sometimes dire consequences: "The Song of Roland" pitted the French against the Spanish, Nazi propaganda perverts the story of Jud Süss to incite the public, the story of ... moreTommy Tailor leads two girls to take a dangerous path and even stories about cute animals can hold dark secrets.Volume two is a cautionary tale of the power of stories. If we allow the stories we read to take hold, live within us and guide our actions, they are no longer only shadows of ideas on a cave wall, but through our hand manifest themselves in the real world. As with the first volume, my appreciation for the story increased substantially during the writing of this review (I started out wanting to rate this book only 2 stars).
review 2: I really enjoyed this. The art is fantastic. I felt that the story in the prison was a 3/5 but the Nazi adventure, it's art and the idea of focus is freaking brilliant. Didn't think it could get better until the Winnie the Pooh freakfest!!!!This is an incredible idea that would never be as good as written literature alone.Perfect as a graphic novel.Just wish it didn't have such a potty mouth. less
