review 1: I thought this was quite interesting. It seemed to be sharing some of the ideas Alan Moore had in Promethea and League of Extradoniary Gentlemen. It liked the idea of the intermingling of fiction, magic and reality. I like the idea of evil organisations controlling what people read and subsequently what they think. However, the Harry Potter overtones were definitely too heavy-handed but I'm very interested in what he's doing with the ideas of fiction and will definitely keep reading it and see where it goes.
review 2: A great concept but one that is very poorly executed. The Harry Potter parallels are - obviously - constant but also go beyond parallels. The story reads like fan fiction; the creative team reeeaallly wanted to use Harry but weren't able to. They ... morenever OWN Tommy, their own character, their own place and voice. This book wants to be an AU Potter spin off so badly that it doesn't allow itself to be what it could have been: something so much better, something original. less
