review 1: 3 1/2 stars. Interesting plot, with lots of clever, delightful deviousness and political machinations. Somewhat underdeveloped characters, with the exception of the main character. World feels a bit like it was lifted from Star Wars—or, more aptly (and more likely, since the author's daughter is named Inara)—from Firefly. So, not terribly original, but still fun. Lots of action—a bit too much, actually, as the frequency of the fights minimized how invested you were in each battle. I enjoyed the story, though!

Too many characters and no character development. It's a sad attempt at a firefly clone.
