review 1: 4 Recoveries, Redemption, Realization Stars * * * * This is the book which must be prescribed after the reading of Seduced. If you read Seduced when it first came out in August 2013, my heart goes out to you. I do not know how readers survived the ending of that book and were able to function until October 2013 for this. Because the emotional upheaval Missy Johnson put me through while reading that book was enough to send me to the bed... in a dark room ... clutching my pillows ... rocking back and forth... I think you are getting the picture...So the only thing that got me through the last few pages of that book was I knew I had this one all lined up and ready to read. In this book, Jack would find himself and I would learn everything was going to be ok.Well.... yes and n... moreo.Jack moved to Brooklyn and it is 3 years since the tragedy. He has figured out how to never feel the pain of love; he is making his way through life, at least doing what he loves for a change... and it was a conscious effort and way of honoring Belle. He hasn't forgotten or forgiven himself for anything to do with Belle...but he has learned to think of her without it hurting as much as it did. He also has given up scotch and tries to maintain control in his life in every way.The fork in his road to redemption is his meeting Rose. Jack is helping his brother, Alex, by picking him up after his shift at the rehab center where he works as a psychologist. While waiting for Alex, he hears this amazing voice singing a song which has great meaning to him.... It was the song he played over and over again during his darkest period of mourning Belle. He goes to see who is singing and there is Rose; beautiful, soft, with the perfect curves and lovely features. She also has the voice of an angel and he is taken with how wonderful she sounds. They strike up a conversation and through that one exchange... fate dealt him a blow... because all the dead inside of him awoke; and no matter how hard he tried... he couldn't stop himself from wanting her.Rose was not immune to Jack either... there became this quirky under current.... this intangible thing which caused sparks through them when he just barely touched her by accident. His brother comes out, goodbyes are said…. Yet the dye has been cast and Jack and Rose are on a fateful path. Because Rose has her own issues… she has been tortured by events she isn’t even aware of… causing her to have tried to end her life repeatedly. Her family has always been cold and distant; she has felt alone and lost in so many ways which then cause a feeling of hopelessness; of why … when in the end it all ends anyway. These two seemingly damaged souls connect and in this book Missy Johnson really delivers everything I needed. She gave me the vision of what Jack’s life had become; where he was and how he was surviving yet still holding himself responsible for Belle. She gave me a cast of people who cared about him and were interesting enough for me to want to know more. And best of all she gave me a story which really delve into a serious subject; with real concerns and made me feel. This was a really good read for me and if you are up to a journey of significance… take it with the start of Seduce and ending with Beautiful Rose.
review 2: I absolutely loved Seduce the prequel to this book but for some strange reason I just could not connect to the romance between Jack and Rose and spent half the book hoping she would fall for Alex !It all seemed too rushed and like there was no build up between them at all unlike in Seduce.I think maybe the balance of going over their pasts compared to the here and now was wrong.an enjoyable read but sadly left me a little disappointed after Seduce . less
