review 1: A nice idea and the lead was good, albeit a little too weird. But the way the manga played out was well done and I just went on reading until... well, until I lost track of time and had to go to sleep. I'm reading other manga right now but I'll return to this soon. The only reason it's not five is because I'm not into cooking that much and the drawings weren't visually appealing. The art was not my type, despite being clear and precise. So 4 stars!!!
review 2: Odd... and strangely unappetizing for a manga about gourmet food. The descriptions and reactions did remind me of Yakitate, blended with the muscles of DBZ.EDIT: Started the series over again and enjoyed it more the second time around. I still find most of the food unappetizing to look at, all sparkles asi
... morede, especially as for the majority of the time it's slabs of raw animal cut by hand (literally). But it was more enjoyable and I have to say my favorite character isn't Toriko but its his chef friend. Toriko himself reminds me of Goku from DBZ and I think I would've enjoyed his character more if I had seen more of the backstory rather than just snippets of it. Read up to volume 15. less
