review 1: A world where the most delicious foods and drinks are sought after and are usually dangerous or incredibly hard to acquire. Enter Toriko who is a gourmet hunter and a great one to boot. I liked this. The art is pretty cool, mostly because of the weird and cool animals that Mitsutoshi comes up with. The story is pretty standard as Toriko attempts to acquire foods for his ULTIMATE MENU. Fun stuff.
review 2: I wasn't sure what to expect from this going in, except that I was told it was recommended for fans of One Piece, which I am. And I can see why - there's a lot of the same flavor between the two stories, though the actual thrust of the two is very different. ... morend extremely suited to their environment. The animals are pretty wild, and the fascination with food is all over the place. I found this first volume to be exceedingly okay, entertaining but lacking in much of a hook to drag me into the next volume. I will probably continue with this for the interesting premise, but its definitely not a recommendation from me unless you're already interested in checking it out. less
