review 1: Still enjoying this series. I have already begun reading Book 4.Falling in love with little Jean more and more, sad for poor Gordon right now, and disgusted with Aryl...kinda hoping Claire ends up alone and a famous artist. Out with one villian and in with the next - just as bad or possibly worse than the first. A good rotation to keep things fresh. Loving the end of this one and how Aryl is being dealt with by his buddies. Hope it works out. Back to my reading, the sooner I get to the answers, the better! : )________some sidenotes....The only thing that snagged me a few times in 1930 Aryl's Divide - was the similarity in the names Victor and Vincent. These are characters that came up very occasionally here and there but each time one showed up I had to take a sec ... moreto think. There are a slew of important characters in the series and it's been extremely easy to keep track of each one. The Victor/Vincent thing is a minute complaint compared to how well developed the many different characters are in that the reader does not get confused or forget certain aspects of each one's lives. Thus, my complaint stands out only because it's the only time my reading was interrupted by silly details. One more very minor thing...there are times I feel the language is a little modern which is a bit distracting when I'm trying to stay immersed in 1931. At one point a character says, 'are you serious right now'? For a person with teenagers, I automatically am thrown out of 1931 and into my very own living room, real time. I'm nitpicking, I know, but I have gotten very invested in this story, having spent the last several days in their world at every spare moment. Thus I feel it worthy to point out to the author anything, silly as it may be, that made my reading experience less than perfect. This series feels like a unique old time soap opera - soo much drama, bad and good things coming up constantly. Never is there time to be bored, even when it's just a regular day in the life. Nor are there any certain characters who are focused on more than others. There is a good rotation in challenges between characters. Love it!
review 2: I don't typically do "series" books. but I have to say, I am in love with this series! The time frame is very appealing to me and the initial plot about the stock market crash in the first book 1929 had me completely enthralled. I have bought (and I never buy books when I can get them free) the next book in the series the second I finish the one I am reading. I am completely invested in these characters and I am anxious to see how it all wraps up. They are easy reads with a good amount of predictability, though not always, I've been surprised a few times. I love how each book has a bit of a different feel or slant. I definitely recommend this series to any reader of historical fiction. M.L. Gardner"s writing is descriptive enough to make you feel as if you are walking down Wall Street on the day of the crash without it being exhausting and overdone. LOVE THEM! less
