review 1: This is a powerful book that gives an insight to part of the world that we in the west don't think about. We know these things happen, but this book enables us to see and feel them on a more fundamental level. I found it sometimes hard to read, but I was compelled to pick it back up to find out what happened. Even though some terrible things happen to these woman, their strength shines through. Highly recommend.
review 2: Another excellent surprise. This started out a little rough for me, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. A book with huge scope covering the lives of two women in Afghanistan, this will first make you curious and then begin tugging on your heart strings from a powerful new (old) perspective, that of the imprisoned and disenfranchised women.
