review 1: An utterly unnecessary, ridiculously romantic & absolutely irresistible soap opera take on Hemingway and his four wives. Each section is narrated by a different Mrs. Hs, but the titanic author is the real centerpiece. And it's a portrait Papa would have adored: passionate, ravenous, tortured, equal parts lout & lover, despised & desired. There’s Paris cocktails, Key West sword fishing, bombs bursting over Madrid—all punctuated with steamy trysts & Lost Gen soirées. Trash, sure. But delicious trash.
review 2: I won this book from Penguin otherwise I would not have picked it up to read. I have read other novels about Hemingway and his marriages so really wasn't interested in yet another. Hemingway is still an enigma to me. Why so many women loved this woma
... morenizer and drinker and befriended each other is not made any more clear by reading this novel.I did appreciate the writing in this novel. The author divides the book in four equal parts, one for each wife. Each section starts with the end of the relationship which I found unique. I am not sure I buy how friendly and enmeshed each wife became with the others as outlined in this book and the timing of each relationship but I refuse to read a biography to find out whether this was actually the case or literary license. less

Not very well-written. Annoying jumps in time that serve no purpose, hard to keep reading.

Liked this one a lot. I'll have a hard time remembering it's fiction though. ;)

Library Request. Good, well written book, disturbing content, but well told.

An interesting read but it left me feeling sad for Ernest and his wives.
