review 1: I really enjoyed the format it was presented in, a book within a book almost. A brash and realistic look at mental health and the impact it can have on all members of someone's life. I liked meeting the family members and friends through the main characters eyes, it gave a real insight into how he felt about each of them, which changed throughout the book. A blunt and truthful view of the NHS and it's services, how the ones that are really needed can be snatched away in no time at all. Throughout the book you're lead to think that the main character really has done something absolutely wicked and unforgivable, until the truth prevails and you see that the impact of schizophrenia has muddied his thoughts and pushed him to believe he is a monster. A real candid look at so ma... moreny issues that affect those with mental health, those who use the NHS services and those with familial issues. An author I shall be looking to for future reads.
review 2: I'm a medical student due to start my Psych placement in the new year, I don't know what to expect but I do know that this book emphasises the importance of how all those people sectioned in hospital are more than patients, they are people with lives you can never understand but you should never give up trying to because the day you stop trying is the day you stop caring.This book was such a wonderful, heart-wrenching read and so full of guilty grief that made it impossible not to empathise with. Just amazing. less
