review 1: Nick, his father and his brother move to his great-aunt's house after a tragic fire cost him his home--and his mother. The family is understandably rocked and floundering. Nick discovers an attic full of household items and decides to sell them at a yard sale. The yard sale is inexplicably and unexpectedly successful, but when Nick realizes that the items he has sold to his new neighbors are not simple household items, but inventions of Nicola Tesla, he is anxious to get them back. Unfortunately he has some competition. A dark and powerful society called The Accelerati is after something from the attic, and they will stop at nothing--including murder--to get it. The book sucked me in right away, and kept me turning the pages. It wasn't until after I finished it that I bega... moren to pick it apart. My issue is that the Accelerati, seem completely invincible. I felt a little painted into a corner. But I think the book has tons of reader appeal and I am anxiously awaiting the next entry to see if there is a chink in the armor.
review 2: I think children would really like this book for the science and supernatural theme. Nick and his friends go on an adventure to retrieve everything they believe is part of a Tesla invention, that was sold at a garage sale. In doing this they come in a race against time and other people in order to get all the pieces back. 1. Describe the relationship between Nick and Caitlin. How does it evolve throughout the book?2.Describe some of the specific ways in which the Accelerati exercise their power and why they are a threat to Nick and the rest of the group?3. Why do you believe Nick feels compelled to take car of his family? and do you think he is successful?4. Do you think the title fits the book? explain with examples. 5. Can you predict what will happen in the next book?Shusterman, N., & Elfman, E. (2013). Strych Tesli. Warszawa: Wydawnictwo Egmont Polska. less
