review 1: This book was just not my cup of tea for a variety of reasons. The first being glaring grammatical errors. I realize I rarely have perfect grammar but I also am not putting books out there for people to pay for to read. Second, characters just appeared in scenes. To the point I had to go back and re-read because I was sure I missed them being introduced. Ideas hopped around and made it very difficult to follow the story progression. I was also hoping this book would be at least slightly suspenseful but it also fell short there too. Not sure I will read anything else by this author.
review 2: To be frank, I don't enjoy books (or any materials) that depict violence against women. It just rubs me all the wrong ways. However, I can appreciate works that inform and ... moreraise awareness about the issue, and I feel Fearscape accomplishes that, especially the ending which illustrates the all-too-tragic, all-too-frequent result. In regards to the writing, it is reminiscent of a symphony in which the tension rises and falls, contracts and relaxes, eventually culminating into an intense, chilling climax. There is no real closure though. The reader is left with a cliffhanger which would hopefully be resolved later in the series. For the moment, I will imagine Gavin falling into an abyss and disappearing forever. less
