Mastretta me deleita. Siempre.
review 2: Reading Mastretta's books is always a joy, it seems as if you were spending a wonderful afternoon talking with a friend. One of those chats about nothing and everything, about deep and light things. No matter if she's taking you to her garden to watch a cricket or a bird, or over the
... more volcanoes, to a gorgeous Caribean beach or to her beloved Italy, you're right there next to her.I think I should say, I'm kind of biassed in whatever review I give to any of her writing. I proudly share she's my aunt, my mom's cousin, and both were very close in age. So much of her writing is more than familiar to me, it's a memory of past experiences and/or tales I've experienced or heard about. From all her books, I can say this is one of my favorites and one I was anxiously waiting for even not knowing it was being written. In this book, Mastretta talks about her parents, especially of what she wonders and knows about her father's time in the war in Italy and the last months before her mother's passing and after it. It's so wonderful to read how she deals with the grief and life after not having either one here. She also talks a lot about her family life, her husband and children, how everyday life goes for them all. There are also the short and not so short stories about the rest of the family and whatever was worthy of writing about in her everyday life. It's an easy book to read, one that sadly ends too soon, but one you know you can keep close and read over and over again. Just like going to coffee with your best friend. less

Me gustó muchísimo.
