review 1: I really enjoyed this book. The characters seemed mostly real to me and I cared what happened to them, which made for a perfect, easy holiday read. The only disappointment was the abrupt ending. Because the family 'secrets' were so obvious and predictable from an early stage, I figured the enjoyment in the ending would be in the fallout of discovering the truth and the impact on the relationships of the living characters. Nope, I'm left to imagine what that may have been. Yes, some kind of ending would have made this book brilliant!
review 2: Loved it, loved it, loved it!!! I've read several of Nick Alexander's novels, and thoroughly enjoyed them all, but I have to say, I think this is his best yet! I loved the story, the past-meets-present style (a particula
... morer favourite of mine), the 'relaxed', yet evocative, prose (he makes it look so easy!) and the well-rounded and believable characters. A mixture of everything I love in a novel - a must read! less
