review 1: The Golden Crystal is a thrilling, action-packed science fiction novel with a large dose of adventure and mystery. In a story that transcends time it unfolds in 1791 with the first American submarine planting a mysterious box on the bottom of the Potomac River, then skips to the present to a failed covert mission in Iraq to locate a puzzling notebook, and to a fatal car crash in New Mexico where a passer-by is kidnapped. The story begins to heat up when Captain Bryce Reynolds the only surviving member of the U.S. Ranger Team in Iraq is hired by James Whittenfield Jr. for an excessive amount of money to protect his company's research and to uncover the whereabouts of a pure crystal substance that could change the fate of the world. What he doesn`t expect as he and his team... more scramble to find the crystal at locations half way across the world and to avoid the bullets of a small army of vengeful Eygptians is that they will have to partner with an egotistical maniac, Dr. Tanning Vilocek, a man seeking to create the perfect human being, and his well-trained, bloodthirsty bodyguards. This is a story about power, revenge, greed and inhumanity set against the backdrop of an age old threat. The well-written plot blends ancient history with the imaginative creativity of science fiction into a high-powered adventure;a roller-coaster ride that twists and turns as secrets are unearthed and lies are exposed. The characters are realistic and complex like Captain Bryce Reynolds with his analytical and data-driven mind who`s as brave and compassionate as he is quick -witted and perceptive. His partners Wayne and Jeff Thompson, and Cole Reed are intelligent, honorable men intensely drive to do what`s right. Corinne Banks is defiant and indignant in her attempt to protect her uncle Professor Jensen Andrews, an older man with an expertise in ancient studies who's willing to do whatever it takes to survive. But of all the characters in this novel it`s the villains that are chilling with their insatiable hunger for power, revenge and murder;like Dr. Tanning Vilocek,a cold-blooded, psychotic researcher; the chameleon James Whittenfield Jr. who hides an evil plan behind good intentions; the vengeful Egyptian Madu Jabari and the sadistic killers, Agents Vladimir Beka and Joannes Karn. This is a riveting story with a shocking ending that gets high praise. I enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
review 2: Nick Thatcher has woven an excellent read-- starting in 1791 in America and going all the way back to Atlantis, and then forward again through history until we end up back in the present. The Golden Crystal has wonderful powers that usually end up in devastating situations. There are 3 groups looking for this crystal, and following it's progression though out history has everyone racing all over the globe looking for it.Thacker developed strong, intelligent characters--some are greedy and some are philanthropic ( at least they have their heads screwed on straight!!).If you like Clive Cussler and Dan Brown, then you will enjoy this book. less

Enjoyable book, a few too many fight scenes, but worth reading.
