review 1: Jess and Jack's story picks up 10 years later when they have to work together to plan a wedding. Jess is still the insecure, shy person she was, just no longer a virgin. Jack is now successful as a chef back in Australia. When Jess realizes that she has to work with Jack and after she sees him again after 10 years, she realizes she still wants him like how she did all those years ago. Due to her introvert nature, she enlists her cousin's help in seducing Jack. Meanwhile, Jack has become best friends with Jess's brother Reid and feels guilty about doing anything with Jess. The sexual chemistry is still there between them even though he keeps spurning her advances. It isn't until after Jack turns Jess down again and she finally loses it and decides that she is going to go af... moreter somebody else does Jack finally decide to give in to his desires for Jess, believing that it can be a no strings attached relationship. Your heart just break for Jess when she loses it because she is so in love with Jack but it seems like he does not feel the same way about her. I am satisfied with the ending to this love story and am looking foward to Reid's love story.
review 2: ****4.5 stars****After flying through Before, the prequel to Jess and Jack's story, I immediately went to Amazon and bought this installment because I HAD to know what became of these two captivating characters! Brash is set ten years down the road from the prequel, and a lot has happened in a decade for Jess and Jack. Once a nomad drifter with a flair for the art of cooking, with Reid's help Jack has climbed his way to the top and is now a well-known and sought-after chef. Jess, the girl who wanted an adventure, well, she was still stuck. Sure, she'd finally gotten rid of her virginity status (I'm still disappointed Jack didn't handle that for her in Before!!), but she'd had her heart broken by a fiance that made her feel like she was nothing but a dud in every way. It broke my heart to see Jess fall this low, because she was so determined to break out of her shell only to be tucked back into it by a jerk and her own fear of taking control of her life. So when she made the decision to leave her librarian days behind her and bring a little burlesque vixen out for play just in time for Jack to stroll back into her life, I couldn't wait to see the fireworks!! They picked up right where they left off with the banter and crazy sexual tension, only with Jess refusing to back down like she did as a teen. Jack was in her sights, and she was going to bowl him over with her pasties and corsets or die trying. She was sexy with a side of awkward as she tried her hand at being the sultry sexual being she wanted to be with him, and it was crushing every time Jack denied her. He was still so hung up on her deserving better and her brother possibly not approving, and I wanted to throttle him for putting Jess through more pain. But when he FINALLY caved and did exactly what he'd been craving to do since the minute he saw her, ohmylawd, Jack was a beast and had me panting and fanning myself to stifle the heat!! With an addicting blend of sexy and emotion wrapped up in completely lovable characters, these short stories have hooked me for this series and I can't wait to grab up Reid's story, Blush, next! Quotes:Yet in one hot, steamy encounter in a grungy alley, Jack had blasted her preconceptions sky-high and revealed what she secretly hoped. That her inner vixen was in hibernation mode and needed the right bait to come out to play. ~Loc 526She had no idea how long it took for the exquisite ripples to subside, but as Jack wrapped his arms around her and her head sank onto his shoulder, a persistent thought intruded on her hazy bliss. How the hell could she walk away from this? ~Loc 1561He turned and walked away, the agonizing ache in his chest indicating the depth of his feelings. Yeah, he loved Jess. Loved her enough to let her go. ~Loc 1726 less
