The Inheritance Trilogy

review 1: The last book in the trilogy is significantly toned down in excitement compared to previous two books. This one had a melancholy, slightly disturbing tone throughout, too. I might even say it seemed somewhat more epic, as it built upon the two previous books' foundations (a sign of good story telling). This is not a book for the fast-pace-adventure-action-seeker, though there is some of all that. The focus seemed to be on Sieh's as a god and his growth, which is subtle, but you can tell he's struggling. The themes of change/personal growth and being true to one's nature is constantly visited in all three books, so you know it's important and to be expected.So, I enjoyed the trilogy for its unique strangeness and surreal world that didn't go so far I couldn't stomach it. It... more was pretty, tragic, and gives some decent closure.
review 2: So if I told you this trilogy is "fucking amazing" you may start reading these books and you might think, "ya, this is pretty amazing, but is it 'fucking amazing?'" So I'm not going to tell you that.I will tell you that these books are N.K. Jemisin's FIRST BOOKS she's ever written. Are they perfect? Of course not, there are some parts in 2 & 3 that lag a bit, but are still important to the plot. What I find AMAZING is the imagination, the eloquence, the UNIVERSE building, the characterization, the dialogue, the relationships...As someone who would eventually like to publish SOMETHING (no idea what) I find this trilogy inspirational, especially as I have read a LOT of crappy first-tries, and also some VERY crappy 10th tries.I loved this trilogy, and will read on, N.K.! I will read on. less
