review 1: You can tell this is written by someone with great insight into the field of psychotherapy, and it has a good simple prose that gets down to the point. I don't think the struggles of the psychologist are pursued quite as well or in as much depth as they could be, and the ending comes quite suddenly and does not bring together parts of the story conclusively to my mind. Despite this minor flaw of structure, the themes keep you interested and it is a well thought out book. Worth a read and you will probably learn a few things from it also.
review 2: Der Ansatz könnte eigentlich reizvoll sein. "Der gute Psychologe" ist eine Art Abhandlung über Grundlagen der Psychotherapie, verpackt in eine - allerdings ziemlich reduzierte - Romanhandlung. Die Hälfte des Buchs ... morebesteht aus der Wiedergabe von Psychologie-Vorlesungen des Protagonisten. Das Problem dabei: Als Sachbuch geht das Ganze nicht wirklich in die Tiefe und bietet wenig Überraschendes, und der fiktionale Teil ist nicht sonderlich ausgearbeitet, die Charaktere bleiben blass. Immerhin ist der schlichte, klare Stil ohne großen Kunstanspruch gut lesbar, alle Gedanken klar und nachvollziehbar. Am Ende bliebt dann doch irgendwie das Gefühl, einem redlichen, klugen, unprätentiösen Menschen zugehört zu haben, der "das Richtige" denkt. Zu Noam Shpancer würde ich mich ohne Bedenken in Therapie begeben. Und sein Buch kann man zwischendurch auf jeden Fall lesen. less
