review 1: I really love how the noir aesthetic permeates the whole book, from late night meetings hidden in shadows to the snatches of overheard conversations, as Dani tries to figure out who she can trust. Yet somehow, the atmosphere doesn't get to oppressive. A really great contemporary middle grade read, with definite cross-over appeal for teen readers (espec. those interested in film). Dani is a really great protagonist. She feels real.
review 2: Wow. This book was seriously amazing. I couldn't put it down! I loved way the main character, Dani, talked as though she was actually thirteen years old...not younger, not older. And the plotline was perfect! Exciting and enticing. It makes me want to see a noir movie! I really liked how throughout the story, Dani said thing... mores like "If this were a movie..." FANTASTIC book! I would recommend this to anyone, anywhere. less
