review 1: I’ve found that the best parts of this book was the information about Ludwig the II and Theodor Marot’s diary, but I found that the characters—most noticeably Steven and Sara—felt a bit bland. I also felt that the villains never presented much of a threat, even if there were definite moments of suspense. Though, in conclusion Mr. Pötzsch has gotten me interested in Ludwig the II, and I found that the author’s 'Note for Conspirators' in the back to be very interesting. I intend to read more of the Fairy-Tale King and Mr. Pötzsch can take full credit of that.Thank you for your time and consideration.
review 2: Potzsch has written another thriller/mystery, with believable characters that are also sometimes funny, sometimes scary. The premise is that a
... more memoir by one of Ludwig's loyal followers has come to light that explains the king's mysterious death. One of the protagonists is a 40 year-old second hand book dealer that is a stick in the mud, who comes to possess the book and as a result has to deal with several groups bent on murdering him, an art historian to whom he is very much attracted, and with translating this memoir written in code. i didn't know that Ludwig's death was mysterious, only that he had built those fairy-tale castles. This book would make a good movie, one of those funny thriller/mysteries. This is as good as his Hangman Daughter's series and is set, like them, in Bavaria. Highly recommended. less
