The Hangman's Daughter
review 1: I love Potzsch's way of storytelling and how utterly hopeless this book made me feel!the others did too but this one takes the cake by removing Jakob from his usual powerful self being a hangman to an accused man doomed to the gallows. His only hope is his daughter and Simon. The previous one (the dark monk) was at best a filler story. This one ties back into the first book that I fell for. It's worth trying to read if you've read the other two! It answered so many questions I had the last books: why did Jakob leave to become a soldier, what made him return, why is it called the 'hangmans daughter 'series, is there no hope for Simon and Magdalena in their god awful town? Before I ramble I should stop... It's worth a read.
review 2: I loved the setting of this bo
... moreok! The details make it really easy to envision the German Empire in the 1600s. There is plenty of action throughout the entire story and it moves along at a nice pace. The only thing that annoyed me about this book was the sheer number of near misses the characters encounter. It becomes completely unbelievable and seems like it's just providing the easiest way out of all the problems the characters encounter. less

Very good! I love that the author did more with Magdalena in The Beggar King. A spellbound ending.
