The Romney and Marsh Files
review 1: I quite liked this. I read very little crime and police procedural, but this seemed pretty good to me. My issues were with some of the writing, it was quite awkward in places, particularly the first page. Reading the author's notes at the end, he is actually encouraging feedback as he is totally self published, so he realises there are issues. Having said that, I think I will have a go at the second book in the series sometime.
review 2: This is an excellent British detective story. It's a real page-turner and I could easily see this transferring to television. Of the two main characters, DI Romney is perhaps the most rounded, although he does fall into the slightly stereotypical niche of having a number of failed marriages behind him. My only carps with the
... more story were that the sections when we are supposedly listening in to the thought processes of the protagonists are perhaps a bit stilted and really need to be a little more colloquial. My other carp is the error, mentioned elsewhere in the reviews for this, of "would of" and "could of" - this is quite a common error in modern writing but it does jar with the reader and should have been avoided. I know that "would've" and "could've" sounds like that, but that's no excuse. Having said all of that, I really would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys detective fiction - you won't be disappointed. less

This was a very good self-published Kindle British detective story that I would recommend to anyone.

An ok read. Once the crime itself had been solved the story became a bit far fetched for me.

Actually quite good for a self published author. Glad I downloaded his other two.
